Citizen/Activism
Born in Monaca, Pennsylvania Josh was raised by a single mother in the projects and fought hard to overcome significant adversities in his childhood and eventually became a walk-on to the UK Track and Field Team. In five years on the team, Josh eventually earned a full scholarship and became one of the top milers in the SEC. While at UK he received several local and national honors such as the UK Sullivan Medallion Award, the Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award, and the John Wooden Citizen Cup Award (finalist). Josh also worked at the Catholic Action Center, a homeless shelter in Lexington and has been a supporter in various homelessness prevention initiatives.
Since graduating from UK with his master’s degree in social work, Josh has worked at the domestic violence shelter GreenHouse17 and currently works for the Lexington Housing Authority as a social worker. He has been involved in and led many community initiatives including the #BringUsHome project, a homeless experience where he and a friend went homeless to raise awareness and $3,000 for a homeless shelter. Josh has also started his own non-profit, On The Move Art Studio, a mobile art-room for at-risk youth.
